Welcome to SMVI!

Southern Maryland Vocational Industries (SMVI) was founded in response to the realization of a group of parents that their disabled children would have no state services or supports after graduation from special education classes. These parents banded together to devise a program that would enable their children and other unserved children to become gainfully employed adults.

SMVI was incorporated as a Private Non-Profit Corporation in January 1985 and began serving five graduating students in April 1987. In 1989, SMVI initiated Residential Services, Individual Support Services began in 1996 and CSLA was licensed in 1998.

SMVI primarily serves Prince George's County individuals, but we do not limit our services to this county   As of June 1, 2006, SMVI served 52 individuals in Supported Employment, 65 individuals in Residential Services, 22 individuals in Individual Support Services, and 2 individuals in Community Supported Living Arrangements.

Mission Statement
